Welcome to the Cult Movie Club

A Totally Normal Gathering of Like-Minded Individuals

Who We Are

The Cult Movie Club is a discussion group dedicated to cult cinema — the misunderstood, the transgressive, the spectacular failures that somehow became beloved, and the films that polite society would rather pretend don't exist.

Films are typically curated by your Benevolent Cult Leader, with occasional Cult Member picks and — when democracy briefly seizes power — a vote. We also welcome the cult-adjacent: films that don't yet know they're cult classics, and films we feel should be cult classics whether they like it or not.

How We Meet

We gather Tuesdays once a month on Zoom at 5 PM.

Times listed are all PACIFIC STANDARD TIME

The Sacred Tenets

To keep things fun and focused, we ask that everyone:

  • I. Thou shalt be respectful.

All Cult Members are to treat fellow Cult Members with kindness and basic human decency. We may disagree about films. We may disagree loudly about films. We will do so without being insufferable about it.
  • II. Thou shalt leave thy film snobbery at the door.

Academic interpretations are welcome. Film studies dissertations delivered with a condescending air are not. We are here to have fun, not to make anyone feel bad about not having seen the 1963 Hungarian original.
  • III. Thou shalt speak thy truth.

If you hated the film, say so. Loudly, if necessary. Honest opinions are not just permitted here — they are actively encouraged. There are no wrong takes. There are only your takes, and they are valid, even when they are wrong.
  • IV. Speaking is never mandatory.

Except for the Cult Leader. The Cult Leader always speaks. It is literally the job.
  • We remain intentionally small so that every voice has room to be heard. Please extend the same courtesy to your fellow Cult Members that you would wish extended to yourself.

Why We Stay Small

Because a cult of thousands is just a religion, and we have neither the infrastructure nor the tax-exempt status for that..
